Corey Glover on upcoming Soulive cd

Jazz/rock trio Soulive has inked with Concord Records for the Sept. 13 release of its next album, "Young, Hungry and Groovin'." The group was previously signed to Blue Note, which capped its tenure with the late March retrospective "Steady Groovin'."

The 15-track new album features such guests as Robert Randolph on a cover of Jimi Hendrix's "Crosstown Traffic," Living Colour vocalist Corey Glover on "Freedom," Chaka Khan on "Back Again" and Ivan Neville on "Take It Easy" and "Got Soul."

"Young, Hungry and Groovin'" is Soulive's first studio album since a 2003 self-titled effort, which debuted at No. 5 on Billboard's Top Contemporary Jazz Albums chart.

The group will be on the road throughout the summer, including a show on June 24th with Antibalas as part of New York's Celebrate Brooklyn festival. Soulive will also play at the Shakedown Campout and Music Festival in North Plains, Ore., alongside Galactic, Medeski Martin & Wood, Michael Franti and Sage Francis, among others.

CBGB's Favorite Colour

By David Schultz

Halfway into Living Colour's Friday night set at CBGB's, Corey Glover belted out the opening lines to Open Letter (To A Landlord), perfectly encapsulating the populist undercurrent of this month's benefit shows to save the legendary punk club on the lower east side of Manhattan:

Now you can tear a building down
But you can't erase a memory
These houses may look all run down
But they have a value you can't see

2 hours and 15 minutes of great rock!

On a related note, Muzz Skillings was in the house! We all saw him just stroll up casually and stand in line. Lots of fans took a double take! And Muzz was extremely friendly w/ whomever gave him a shout etc. It was great to see Dennis and Muzz as well as Corey talking before the show and running into Doug Wimbish on the way to the gig. According to a fan from the Sacred GRound board, they asked about Muzz's band "Medicine Stick" and supposedly a website is in the works. Stay tuned!

Who was the DJ @ CBGB's that spun right before Living Colour took to stage?

- "Andrea Clarke, who also has a radio show on WBAI. She's great at what she does, but that night she was on fire! And it was a first for her; she's never actually spun onstage before, with a crowd watching her; usually someplace more obscured, but she did great"
